About this project

What Comparative Politics is, who writes it and how the content is produced.

What this project is

Comparative Politics is a project for public scholarship and empirical analysis on democracy, autocratization and institutions. It brings together short analyses, documented data and interactive visualizations for readers who want to understand how regimes change without giving up rigor.

The project starts from a simple idea: comparative politics does not need to simplify its findings to be accessible. It needs to explain where the numbers come from, what they measure and what falls outside the measurement.

Who writes it

Salvador Mayordomo Hernández is a researcher and PhD candidate (PhD(c)) at the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche. His work focuses on autocratization, non-majoritarian institutions and comparative methods.

ORCID: 0009-0006-8342-4256.

How it is produced

Every piece distinguishes between data, interpretation and opinion. Figures link to their source, dataset version and date of access. When a series cannot be reproduced, the text says so. When a claim is a hypothesis, it says that too.

Original texts are published under CC BY 4.0. Data keeps the license of its source. The license page explains reuse.

Project status

This is the first public version of the portal. Migration of the old content, citation review and new data series are underway. Corrections and suggestions are welcome.
